Happy New Year All. I hope 2014 will be your best year ever.

I thought I would do a traditional scrapbooking layout for my first one of 2014. I did this one for the January Scrap Fusion challenge at Aussie Scrappers Society. For the challenge I had to use vellum and embossing. This is what I came up with.

I used the vellum to provide the negative space on the page. I started with a 12x12 piece of velum and tore and inked the top and bottom edges. The bottom edge I tore diagonally and, just inside the inked edge, I embossed it with gold and copper. This provided an upper frame for my photo and other elements.

Here are a couple of close ups to give you an idea of how I did the embellishments. The first one shows the Chinese proverb I used in the top left of my layout. I thought this proverb was a perfect match for my heritage layout. The second photo shows how I've arranged the embellishments. I stated with vintage die cuts, layered silk flowers on top and entwined them with some swirling bling to help highlight the photo. Finally, I made a rosette with some lace that some kind person sent to me as a random act of kindness (RAK). I used some more bling for the centre of the rosette. You cant see it in the photo but I highlighted the flowers with bronze paint and gold glitter.

Thank you for stopping by.
